Team Spotlight: Sameera

By Adrianna Nehme, Communications Assistant

“It's so rewarding to be able to help students learn academically, all while forming a bond with them! The students are so kind and hardworking, it makes every session fun!” —Sameera

Sameera volunteers as a Big Sister mentor and supporter for the organization Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, and she has also volunteered at the Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, where she completed art-based activities with the patients. She learned about FORA through an online website when looking for a virtual volunteering opportunity, and she was positively struck by FORA’s purpose and values and joined because she wanted to be part of an organization that encouraged and empowered its students.

When volunteering each day, she looks forward to the conversation with her student at the beginning of each session. She hasn’t had one particular highlight throughout her experience with FORA because she has found every session to be been an exciting experience.

In Sameera's free time, she enjoys playing the ukulele and singing along to her favorite songs, and she has recently taken up cooking. For those who would like to be a FORA volunteer in the future, she recommends having a compassionate and patient outlook.
