Tell me a bit about yourself! Lucas (he/him) is a rising junior from Arkansas. He is currently attending Northwestern University with a major in Human Development in Context, minor in sociology, and pursuing a Civic Engagement Certificate. What experience did you have with volunteering prior to FORA? Before FORA, Lucas was a part of a program called Books and Breakfast in Evanston, Illinois. At this program, he ensured that elementary and middle-aged children had breakfast, got support in homework, and were prepared for the school day. It was because of this experience, he wanted to continue working with children in helping them with their education.
How did you learn about FORA and what made you commit to it? Why does refugee education matter to you? Lucas heard about FORA through Handshake, where upon hearing about it he was immediately interested. He says that he applied because he wanted to teach and help others learn. Lucas was also especially enthusiastic about working with refugees. What brings you joy in life / what do you like to do in your free time? For fun, Lucas likes to read, go to the beach, listen to tunes, jump rope, and call his family.
