2022 Tutoring — Currently accepting applications!

Our Spring 2022 Tutoring Program will run evenings from January 3 to June 14, 2022. We have three volunteer tutoring options and (for pre-qualified Loyola U. candidates) a work-study program option.

To tutor, you must live in and be a legal resident of the United States (because we must do background checks on tutors who are left alone with children), are willing to undergo a thorough background check (including fingerprinting), speak and read English, and are patient and kind. For in person volunteers and interns, we are willing to consider people of any age. For virtual tutors, you must be 18 or older.

The first tutoring option is in-person tutoring. Although we encourage in-person tutors to come every day (to ensure tutor-student consistency), at a minimum in-person tutors must tutor at least two weekdays a week for two hours each shift (the same two-hour shifts each week) for at least five months. In person tutoring times are Mondays through Fridays, 4:30 pm to 6:30 p.m. and 7 pm to 9 pm. If you are interested in tutoring less than four days a week, we prefer that you tutor Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays or Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (we have a constant need for Friday tutors!).

The second tutoring option is virtual tutoring. Virtual tutors would tutor students who are physically at FORA and supported by FORA in-person tutors. Virtual tutors must tutor at least one hour every weekday (the same hour each day) for tutoring for at least five months. Virtual tutoring hours are weekdays, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., 7:00 p.m.  to 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The third tutoring option is late-night homework virtual tutoring, from 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., where tutors help high school and college students  at night via the zoom after the students return home from FORA. Such tutors will have little daily support from FORA tutoring mentors and would need to be able to help in all sorts of high school level homework. Four nights a week, for an hour each night, from 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Central time is required.

If you sign up to any of the above volunteer positions, we would expect for you to stay until June 14th, 2022 (or, if you are a college student, when your college semester ends). At that point, we shift to our summer program, which meets in the morning and early afternoon.

We also have numerous volunteer intern positions, for which we require at least 15 hours per week, and summer internships as well. To learn more and apply for internships, click here
