Michaela

By: Nate Sommer//

Tell me a bit about yourself!

Michaela (she/her) is going into her first year at Northeastern University and planning on majoring in Psychology. She is very interested in education and child development.

What experience did you have with volunteering prior to FORA?

Before FORA, Michaela had plenty of experience helping people in her community through volunteer programs at her school. She also spent two weeks on a mission trip to Guatemala where she helped build houses for families and spent time interacting with the local children.

How did you learn about FORA and what made you commit to it? Why does refugee education matter to you?

Michaela heard about FORA through a Facebook post and immediately contacted an

organization member expressing her willingness to join for the summer. Michaela believes that it is really important for everyone to have equal opportunities for education. She thinks that not having an education could deny someone access to opportunities, so by providing educational services FORA is opening up career options for people in the community.

What brings you joy in life / what do you like to do in your free time?

Michaela is a figure skater and loves to ice skate in her free time. She also enjoys hiking, being outdoors, playing with her dog, and spending time with friends.
