Freskida grew up nearby in Skokie, informally tutoring other children at 12 years old. Having to simultaneously learn and teach English as a second language has made her value literature and student-centered education, and has come to FORA to continue volunteering in the education sector. She currently volunteers in Chicago Public Schools and is a mentor to first generation low-income students in college. Freskida will graduate as a Social Policy major with a Civic Engagement Certificate from Northwestern University, with the goal of practicing immigration law. Between study sessions, she listens to R&B and hip hop and recently finished reading Teaching Community by Bell Hooks.
